Dr. Fernandez
Veterinarian
I’m a veterinarian with a strong interest in veterinary surgery and exotic pet medicine, especially reptiles and pocket pets. My experience spans small-animal clinical work as well as marine veterinary medicine, where I’ve cared for a wide range of species, from marine mammals to aquatic reptiles. Outside of work, I’m happiest when I’m close to nature, whether that’s exploring the coast, diving, or getting involved in conservation projects. I also enjoy staying active through running, strength training, and hiking with my husband and our dog. I’ve been fortunate to work across diverse areas including wildlife and marine rehabilitation, conservation policy, and ecosystem restoration, all of which have shaped the holistic, science-driven approach I bring to my work every day.
Dr. Kellie Kokenakes (Joined us June 2026)
Veterinarian
Dr. Kellie Kokenakes grew up in Essexville. She completed her Bachelor’s degree at Saginaw Valley State University and completed her DVM degree at Michigan State University. She has been married to her husband Henry since 2018. Together they have a 9 yr old black lab mix named Killian.
Dr. Cortnie Masters
Veterinarian
Hi, my name is Dr. Cortnie Masters! I grew up in Saginaw, Michigan, and my path in veterinary medicine began when I became a Licensed Veterinary Technician after graduating from Baker College of Flint in 2013. I later earned my bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Saginaw Valley State University before attending Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, where I earned my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2025.
One of my favorite aspects of veterinary medicine is emergency care and working through the medical side of complex cases. I also work full-time at Great Lakes Pet Emergencies, where I have the opportunity to see and treat a wide variety of emergency cases.
I’m excited to continue growing as a veterinarian, especially when it comes to building my surgical skills and becoming an even more well-rounded doctor. I look forward to caring for our patients, supporting their families, and continuing to learn every day!

Our Technicians
Jamie
Hi, my name is Jamie! I graduated in May 2026 with an Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology and am excited to begin my career doing what I love, helping animals and the people who care for them.
Outside of work, I love spending time outdoors, especially gardening and planting, and I cherish any time I get to spend with my family. I’m also a huge animal lover and enjoy spending time with all of my pets. One of my favorite activities is getting outside and going for runs with my dogs!
I’m excited to continue growing in the veterinary field, building relationships with our patients and their families, and helping provide compassionate care to every pet I meet.
